Alpine Currant infested by root weevils -- chemical treatment available?

Asked April 18, 2020, 10:52 AM EDT

Hello, Every year, my currant bush is infested by root weevils (leaves have notches in them). Is there any effective chemical treatment I can use to destroy the weevils? Thanks

Hi, Root weevils are tough insect to manage. Chemical control for the larvae can be different than that for the adult. Here is a link to the pest and some different options on how to successfully manage. Beneficial nematodes can be successful but fall is the best time to apply. https://pnwhandbooks.org/insect/hort/landscape/common/landscape-root-weevil

Tables 2 and 5 You can try a pyrethrin or pyrethoid, but follow all label directions and avoid spraying when in bloom. https://pnwhandbooks.org/sites/pnwhandbooks/files/insect/horticultural-landscape-ornamental/content/pdf/pdfs/landscape-chem-control.pdf
