Using Termite insecticide near dwarf conifers

Asked April 17, 2020, 12:01 PM EDT

How safe is it to spray for termites on a wood shed where numerous small dwarf and midsize conifers are growing. Picea Abies, Susan, or Picea Orientalists Firefly, or C O. Nana Lutea? These are expensive trees to grow. Thank you

Are you trying to control active termites or prevent them from colonizing the shed? It would be best to have a certified applicator with a pest control company do the termite treatments, as the regimen may vary depending on the purpose (prevention versus elimination); sprays are not commonly used for this purpose. In general, it is unlikely such an insecticide would damage the conifers, but any product applied in the wrong conditions (commonly, above 85 degrees) that contacts foliage can have adverse effects (called phytotoxicity).
