Bent grass

Asked April 15, 2020, 7:22 PM EDT

Live in Northern Delaware. This grass will lay down and turns browner in late summer. I cut the grass once or twice a week depending on growth rates. I was wondering if it is a creeping fescue or a bent grass. If it is creeping fescue will it take over the rest of my lawn.

This appears to be creeping bentgrass. It browns off easily later in the year because it has shallow roots and dries out quickly. It grows best when the lawn cutting height is short, so if you want to discourage it, set your mower to cut higher. If you have just a few areas of bentgrass, you may want to remove it and reseed.
