Termites in our garden

Asked April 13, 2020, 8:02 PM EDT

We have identified termites in a small stump in our garden. It is probably 40 to 50 feet from our house. We would like advice on how serious this is, what actions we should take and whether or not we need to have exterminators come out. We would generally prefer to let bugs do their thing and keep chemicals and whatnot out of our garden. Termites are a different story. Or are they? We don't know! Thanks in advance. Chris

Hi Chris,

Do you have a photos of the termites and a length measurement on some mature specimens? Probably nothing to worry about if they are dampwood termites (Zootermopsis sp.), but more of a concern if they are subterranean termites (Reticulitermes sp.).
