Wondering the name of this plant
This looks like a Camellia of some type. They are beautiful and many varieties grow south of us. They are more difficult to grow here as not all are winter hardy in our area. If you have an area of 'microclimate', that is warmer and protected near your home you may be able to grow them, but otherwise you should look for one of the so-called "Ackerman hybrids" or "Winter Series" which were introduced by the National Arboretum and bred for increased winter hardiness.
