Huge leafy plant or weed

Asked April 4, 2020, 8:58 PM EDT

I recently move to MD from GA. What is this huge thing growing in my backyard. Is it safe, should I kill it or feed it. If it edible. Also, how do I get rid of those tiny onions. They are all over my 2 acre property here in central MD.

Prince George's County Maryland

Hi - This is a weed called common mullein (Verbascum thapsus). It is a non-native invasive plant that can be found in places throughout the state. https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/viewSpecies.php?species=2799

Here is more information about this plant.

We do not give advice about edibility of wild plants. You can dig them out and discard them before they produce and disperse seeds to minimize their spread.
