Unusual slug/bug/grub/caterpillar

Asked April 2, 2020, 12:00 PM EDT

Yesterday, April 1, 2020, we were walking through the Tom Dorman nature preserve and sighted this unusual critter. We nicknamed him the coronavirus bug. We would love to know what it is. Are you able to identify it? Thank you, Mary Schaffer

This looks like a fungus. What is the host? Look similar to cedar apple rust.

Well, I am certainly not an expert, but it looked like a distinct grub or slug or caterpillar of some type. It was on the rock in the picture and curled around the little green twig. I suppose it could have knocked off of an unknown host.

Okay, what I thought was a green stem does look like it may be a Caterpillar. It is right in the vary center of the photo. The photo is not sharp enough to ID the species, but it may be a Caterpillar of one of our medium sized moths.
