Stocking fish in farm pond

Asked April 1, 2020, 7:42 PM EDT

I am trying to find a place to buy fish to stock my pond. The pond is about 100' x 100" and 12' deep at deepest. Could you give me some direction as to places as well as best type of fish. Thank you. Dave Carignan

Hi:

You can visit the Fish Stocking page on the Michigan Department of Natural Resources web site at: https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-350-79136_79236_80241---,00.html.

For a list of private companies scroll down to the bottom of the page.

As for the type of fish, you might stick with warmwater fish like sunfish (bluegills, pumpkinseed, and green, and perhaps minnow) and then make sure you have a predator fish like largemouth bass to keep the population in check). Make sure you follow stocking recommendations for predator to prey numbers.
