growing salvia {annual} -- when to start

Asked March 25, 2020, 12:18 AM EDT

This will be the first time that I will attempt growing salvia seeds. When should I begin starting the seeding process? I assume that I should use a growth light; but I'm uncertain when I should begin this process to obtain optimal growth prior to planting this spring in my gardens. Could you please give me some guidance in this matter? Thank you for your help Dave Lehn

Sow the seeds as soon as possible. If you are growing a variety of blue salvia, planting indoors eight to twelve weeks before the last frost is recommended. Do not cover the seeds.

If you are growing red salvia, planting indoors, six to eight weeks before the last frost is recommended.
