Asked March 24, 2020, 10:55 PM EDT

Recently I started seeing these small bugs flying around I thought it was gnats or something cuz it’s only in the kitchen area. Then I started gettin bites on me from them. They look like flea bites but I have no animals nor have I ever seen a flea fly and I’ve nevwr known a gnat to bite anyone either. Please help I noticed my son got bites on his leg from them as well now and I need to act now So it doesn’t get worse. Thank you

Identification of insects from a description alone is near impossible unless the insect is particularly distinctive. Accurate identification of the pest is the first step in effective management of that pest. Can you please post clear pictures? See this Clemson Home and Garden Information Center (HGIC) fact sheet on how to take good photos for your Extension Agent (https://hgic.clemson.edu/how-to-take-good-photos-for-your-extension-agent/).

You may collect some of the insects in a container filled with alcohol and take them to your local Purdue University Extension (https://extension.purdue.edu/JACKSON) for identification and management options.

Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot make a responsible recommendation for management without identification of the pest.
