When is the best time to prune grape vines in the denver metro area? The grape plants have a lot of dead vines, how much should I cut the vines back?

Grape pruning is generally is done in late March to April. However, always watch the weather closely in the spring. Delay pruning if weather forecasts show freezing temperatures as pruning will create new and tender growth that will be killed by late frosts.

As far as how much to prune away, it depends on how old the vine is and where to prune back to 1, 2 or 3 spurs to create renewal vines. The video above and the link below explain more about this:
