Holes in our grass

Asked March 22, 2020, 4:08 PM EDT

About a month ago we started noticing holes in our yard approx. 2 inches wide. We have filled some in with dirt and grass and more keep appearing. We probably have a dozen+ I have taken photos. Wanting to know what they are from and how to stop them. -Morgan

Thank you for the images as they clearly display holes made by voles, often called meadow mice.

Information about managing these rodents is in the publication "Meadow Voles and Pocket Gophers." The primary strategy in home gardens is to maintain a well-mowed lawn and to use multiple mouse traps.
