Vole treatment

Asked March 21, 2020, 10:47 AM EDT

As the snow melted we found several squiggly dead grass lines. I have been told these are due to vole activity. Our neighbors do not have them. They occur in a 400 aq ft area. Are voles active year round and in daylight or night hours? What can be done to discourage their activity,

Thank you for writing.

Here is some good information on Vole damage. https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/vole-damage

Traps might help. In the fall, cut the grass shorter. For now set the blade about 2" for a month and then increase to 4 inches in june to encourage deep grass root growth and a healthier lawn.
