Trapping Yellowjacket Queens

When should I put out my Yellowjacket traps to get the queens before they nest?

Hello. Thank you for your question. I have included a link to an Oregon State University Extension publication. It says to set traps for queens starting in May. The OSU link talks mostly about yellow jackets in Christmas trees. I have also included a link from University of Illinois Extension that also describes places you should look for queens hiding or looking for a nesting place. You should start scouting for the queens to emerge when the weather starts to warm in late spring. If we get sustained warm weather earlier than May, they may emerge a bit earlier.
