When to apply crabgrass pre emergent this year (2020)

Asked February 27, 2020, 10:50 AM EST

I live in northern Calvert County and usually apply crabgrass pre-emergent/fertilizer in mid March or so. My wife is already picking daffodils and we have other trees/vegetation getting ready to pop. Am I too late for applying the crabgrass pre-emergent this year, and if not, when should I do it? JRM

Weather changes so much from year to year that a good way to calculate time when crabgrass germinates is to coordinate with when something else obvious is going on botanically. In this case, apply pre-emergent when forsythia blooms are fading/falling. https://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/non_HGIC_...
Apply about a week early for stiltgrass control, too.
