using California bay leaves as mulch

Asked February 22, 2020, 12:15 PM EST

We have 3 garbage cans full of shredded California bay leaves and branches from our tree that was damaged. Can I use these as mulch as is? Or perhaps to cover a path that gets weedy in the summer? Or should I add them to my compost heap to decompose? Thank you!

I think they would be a wonderful mulch. Their leathery leaves will take a long time to decompose, and would be great for keeping weeds down on your path.

Thank you! What a great service you provide.
