Is is safe to grow plants that are eatable in 5 gallon multi use buckets from home depot and other stores . The same question is for 5 gallon buckets l and other sized buckets that held cat litter such as Tidy cat scoopable .

For container gardening, five gallon buckets work well for growing edibles as long as you provide drainage holes around the outside of the container. Empty buckets or buckets with cat litter are also fine to use. Don't use buckets that contained paint or other chemicals.

The buckets, however, will break down over time from sunlight.

Containers specifically made for growing plants are usually made of plastics that are designed to withstand exposure to sunlight. These containers will likely last longer, before becoming fragile thank five gallon buckets.
