Red Osier Dogwood Propagating

Asked February 18, 2020, 9:29 PM EST

We have some red osier dogwood on our farm and I would like to grow some in a different spot for deer browse/food. Being February right now, what is my best propagating from cuttings? Should I cut now and keep moist and cool, and wait til spring to plant. Or, should I wait until spring...cut and plant the same day? Thank you!

Softwood cuttings are taken in late May through early July from the current season’s growth. Cutting material should be flexible but mature enough to snap when sharply bent. The following site has instructions for softwood cuttings.
