Damage to the bark and the transport system ( phloem) will cause long term problems for your evergreen tree. Your tree will try to recover from this large wound, but the needles and branches will probably decline and die back, because the food and water pathways were destroyed. The wounded area will allow T wood-rotting organisms and decay fungi to enter and cause further damage. You should claim damage for this tree. Some parts of tree may survive but the lifespan will be shorter.
