Unknown Fruit-Bearing Tree

Asked January 28, 2020, 4:59 PM EST

Hello Cooperative Extension Expert, Please take a look at the two photos provided and identify the tree for me. The first photo is of the trunk; the second is of the berries or fruit that the tree bears. The robins are absolutely crazy about them.

We cannot say for sure but it may be a type of crabapple as they can hold their fruit until the end of the winter.
You can send us more photos when the tree leafs out in the spring. Send photos of the leaves and leaf arrangement on the branch as well as flowers for identification characteristics.

Thank you, Marian. I will put that on my calendar to do when the leaves sprout and also when the time of day will be more favorable for taking a photo of the crown.

Til then, best regards,

You're welcome. We'll be happy to take another look in the spring.
