Tree species?

Asked January 19, 2020, 4:59 PM EST

Hi OSU extension team! I was wondering if anyone could help identify this tree in our backyard? The bark seems “stringy” and hoping by zooming in on the needles you can get even more clues as to what it is? Thank you so much!

Thank you for your question. Are you able to take a photo of the needles and the bark from just a few inches, rather than a few feet? Any cones? Thanks!

thank you so much for the response!

there are no cones with this tree!

attached or more images :)
I can’t get much closer but can grab a ladder at some point if need be.

This appears to be a cultivated variety of Japanese cedar, Cryptomeria japonica. Perhaps the Elegans variety.
