erradicate squash beetle in home garden

Asked January 16, 2020, 12:49 AM EST

For last couple of years I have had huge seemingly over night invasion of squash beetles including winter and summer squash and sometimes they even hop over to the cucumbers. I have tried rotating the area (I have a fairly large space so they were hundreds of feet away from previous invasion). I have sprayed w various organic sprays, soap water etc. I have not seen the eggs on the under side that I keep reading about. I carefully dispose of infected vines/fruit. What are other organic options and are there any tried and true resistant varieties.

Thank you for your question. I am uncertain whether you have squash beetles, which are common in the Eastern US, or squash bugs, which are prevalent in the West. Here are articles describing both, and their control: http://ipm.uconn.edu/documents/raw2/html/672.php?aid=672 http://hortsense.cahnrs.wsu.edu/Search/MainMenuWithFactSheet.aspx?CategoryId=5&PlantDefId=55&ProblemId=225 This article references some companion plants that may help reduce the population: https://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=21085 Good luck!
