lady bugs in greenhouse

Asked January 14, 2020, 12:08 PM EST

It is mid January in Oregon. We have aphids on some of our plants in greenhouse (kept at 60 degrees). We bought and released 1500 ladybugs, who seemingly at some of the ladybugs, but now are mostly gone. How can we battle aphids this time of year?

Thank you for your question. I'm uncertain what you are growing in your greenhouse, and the species of aphid is related to the species of plant(s). The following Extension article has some information about identifying what you have, as well as other monitoring and control methods: http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7404.html

If you need further help, I suggest you take some insect samples into the Clackamas County Extension office, 200 Warner-Milne Road, Oregon City, between 9 and noon, and 1:00 and 4:00 pm on weekdays, where staff can attempt to identify them under the microscope. Good luck!
