Goat head remediation

Asked January 10, 2020, 11:42 AM EST

We live in western Elbert County, southeast of Parker and have an awful problem with goat heads. Last year was a particularly bad year and they have tried to take over. We have about an acre of native grass in the front and they are everywhere now. We have pulled them year after year. We have poisoned them. We have tried to seed grass over them. I have stickers all over in front this winter. Any ideas for picking up the stickers and for killing the plants?
Thanks,
Melanie

You are not alone in your frustration with puncture vine/ goatheads. Please use the CSU links below to arm yourself with more information on mechanical and chemical controls of this noxious weed. Plant Talk article 2109: https://planttalk.colostate.edu/topics/weeds-cultural-problems/2109-puncture-vine/ And Puncturevine ID and Management: https://sam.extension.colostate.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2018/08/puncturevine.pdf Best of luck with this pernicious grower!
