How to determine crown damage on grass
While damage is possible, it may not be detectable until later in spring when the turf resumes growth for the season. It is something the turf can easily recover from if it's not too extensive. The best approach for now to avoid further compaction of the turf is to simply try using a barrier to foot traffic, though certainly this is not always heeded. The weight of the snow/ice itself shouldn't be a problem, though it's best to distribute shoveled snow relatively evenly over the landscape when greater amounts of snow have fallen and need clearing. This way, there should be minimal landscape impacts as it compresses and slowly melts.
