Ball can’t get mouse down throat

Asked January 7, 2020, 12:30 AM EST

My ball python likes to sometimes eat mice butt first. She has currently been trying to get a mouse down her throat for the last 3.5 HRs. It looks like the mouse became balled up in her throat and she can’t get it down. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your question. If the mouse is stuck (i.e., the snake is unable to regurgitate it), take your snake to a reptile vet. They should be able to safely remove the mouse. In the future, feed smaller mice. It's always better to feed multiple smaller prey items than to try to feed a single large one.
