Dwarf Alberta Spruce Tree

Can a Dwarf Alberta Spruce Tree thrive well in the Portland Metro area if it is taken from the pot and planted? I believe the plant is rated as appropriate to zones 3 - 6, and have seen Portland rated an '8.' Thank you, and Happy Holidays! peter

Thank you for your question,Peter. You are correct in being cautious in planting this species in the soil, where you can control the water less accurately than in containers. These are native to far cooler and wetter environments. As the following article indicates, they are susceptible to insect infestations (spider mites, especially), ad thrive in more northern climes: https://plantfacts.osu.edu/pdf/0247-849.pdf Happy holidays to you, as well, and thank you for using Ask an Expert!
