There is a tree on my property that has a chain wrapped clear around it and it’s inbedded. I want to know if I should take this cable off, or what to do. I know it’ll kill the tree eventually .

Thank you for your question. As no photos were provided and from what I can gather from your description yes the tree will eventually be lost. The nutrients a tree needs is supplied by the roots through a thin layer under the bark. If the chain is imbedded as you say this has cut off or substantially reduced the food supplied to the tree and it is living off the stored energy above the girdling. Eventually this will run out.

Removing the embedded chain will more than likely tear off more bark and the cambium layer. I would say at this point you need to decide you next move.

I have listed links below which may provide some information on your problem along with an image of a typical tree layer. Your County Extension may be able to provide some further advice.
