Mole v Vole

Asked November 11, 2019, 10:04 PM EST

All of a sudden my main flower bed has tunnels zigzagging all across it. How do I tell if it's a mole or vole? How do I get rid of them?

Moles make raised tunneling. Entrances have a lot of kicked out soil. Voles do not make raised tunnels. Their holes are about the size of a quarter and clean. They do down at an angle.

Moles will not damage your beds. In fact, the benefit the soil by aerating and they eat pests. You do not have to get rid of them. Voles, however, will eat bulbs, roots and gnaw bark.
