hot lips turtlehead perennial

Asked November 4, 2019, 9:51 AM EST

Morning, my plants have reached a height from 32 to 37 inches tall. With the freezing temps, do i leave them alone during the winter months at this height or do i cut them back to about 12 inches above the ground or what? Do i wait till spring to cut them back or do nothing till then? This is the first time for me to grow theses plants. I thank you so much for your time. Tony

Thank you for your question. Here is an Extension article with information about this species: https://wimastergardener.org/article/turtlehead-chelone-spp/ Another Extension guide recommends waiting until spring to prune to protect it over the winter: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/sites/default/files/documents/12281/springpruningguide.pdf Good luck!
