Is this pesticide spray damage on my grapes

Asked November 4, 2019, 9:18 AM EST

Hi - this weekend I noticed that my grape arbor looks completely dead. We had cold weather several nights but I don't remember this kind of effect on the grapes in other years. There is a commercial hazelnut orchard less than thirty yards from the grape arbor and they spray aggressively. I'm wondering if this damage could be from pesticide drift. Thanks.

This is a result of the cold weather. Frost causes the leaves to turn dark green, blackish, then dry up (turn brown) and fall off over the course of days. You probably don't remember this happening because we typically don't get frost temperatures to do this to vine canopies until later in the year when vines have already lost their leaves naturally.
