Birch bark beetles

Asked October 30, 2019, 8:29 PM EDT

Is it true that this disease is spreading through our county? What are the signs of infection? Is there anything that can be done to save affected trees? Thanks! J Martin

Hi, thanks for using ask an Expert for your question about Bronze birch borer. This is an insect, not a disease, but yes, it is spreading its range throughout Oregon.
Here are some references to help you detect the presence of the beetle, which lives under the bark for most of the year, so is hard to find.
keep in mind that no treatments are effective this time of year. The appropriate time to treat is in the spring.
I hope this is helpful,
