advise on portable winter greenhouse

Asked October 25, 2019, 5:26 PM EDT

Would like to construct (or buy) a portable/temporary winter greenhouse on our SW-facing front deck, approx. 5'wx3'dx7'h to house 4' tall plants. Most greenhouses online have nonadjustable shelves. Looking at heat sources. Can a novice do this? Will my plants survive? :)

Hi- yes, it is possible for a novice to overwinter sub-tropical and tropical plants in either a small commercial greenhouse or home-built greenhouse. Most gardeners with small greenhouses use small electric heaters on a thermostat. Mice are attracted to greenhouses so consider setting mouse traps inside and do your best to prevent their entry.

Unfortunately, we don't have building plans or specific information on the subject so suggest you search online for how to build or buy and use a tiny greenhouse.
