yellow flag iris

Asked October 23, 2019, 12:10 PM EDT

Hi there. I am digging up the invasive yellow flag iris from our garden and want to dispose of if. Should I put it in our yard debris bin or would it be better to put it in the landfill (garbage can)? There will be seeds, rhizomes and stems and leaves from this plant. I will wear gloves! Thank you.

Hello! I think that either way should be safe. Your yard waste container goes to a facility that composts the debris after sending it through a shredder and then uses a hot composting system that should destroy any seeds and or rhizomes from the invasive plants. You can also bag it and send it to the land fill.
