Madrone firewood pest

Asked October 20, 2019, 3:07 PM EDT

What wood boring insect infests my madrone firewood? Is there anything I can do to treat the wood after it has been split and stacked? Is the insect pest in the wood(madrone) before it is cut and split or does it
inter the wood after I cut and split it?? The madrone I cut is dead or partially dead.

Thank you for your question. I believe one of our experts answered this same question for you about 4 months ago:
"No worries -- This is very common and is caused by the larvae of beetles. The beetles attack recently dead trees, stumps or logs. They create winding galleries just under the bark and holes in the wood. This is part of nature's process to recycle wood. The beetles, either adults or larvae, are not a threat to live trees nor to houses or seasoned wood. See the article linked to below for more information.
