What, if anything, should deer be fed to supplement their diet in winter? What do deer eat in winter?

Good Sunday Morning The natural food for deer is browse (young saplings) grasses and grassland forbes. Deer are opportunistic eaters and survivability does not normally require added feed stuffs from us. The University of Kentucky does not suggest feeding deer. Is there any harm to providing a mineral block for them?

I do not know if minerals are necessary. I cannot find any research that indicates mineral supplements enhance antler growth. I have an email sent to our Wildlife Specialist for further information. Please email me at daniel.allen@uky.edu and I will share any information from Dr. Springer.
