Tulsi in cold countries

Asked October 13, 2019, 2:18 PM EDT

I would like to know if Tulsi is perennial in cold countries ( transferred indoor for over wintering). If so are there seeds for such perennial cultivar of tulsi?

Frederick County Maryland herbs

Hi- we are not aware of tulsi basil (Ocimum sanctum) surviving outdoors over the winter in Maryland. Gardeners grow it strictly as an annual, although it freely self-sows- some seeds that drop to the soil this season will germinate next spring.

Plants can be dug and potted this time of year and brought indoors. The plants will need a good light source to grow well indoors- fluorescent or LED.

Lots of informative videos and web content if you search "growing tulsi indoors."
