Two photos attached- Any idea what type of caterpillar is in the photos? I saw it crossing Fouch Rd a month back. It’s head was retracted in its body when I took the pics.

A full-grown caterpillar of the achemon sphinx moth. A beauty. I'll attach a picture of the adult. These caterpillars burrow into the soil, form a pupa, and overwiner there. Adults will come out next summer.

Fantastic! Thank you. My own research was unsuccessful. I’ll keep my I out for more. It was quite beautiful.
