I am baffled as to what this tree is. It is on the NMC campus in Traverse City. It has deciduous branches growing out of deep hollows of what looks like a cedar bark trunk. I believe it had yellow flowers in the spring, but forget my camera/phone every time I visit the campus until today. I live in Seattle, but visit family here often and have become obsessed with this strange tree. I would appreciate any help in sating my curiosity. Thanks
Looks like a Dawn redwood, a ancient tree with a interesting history.
Thanks for the quick response. Fascinating!
Your welcome, it is one of my favorite trees.
