Tomato Ripening

Asked October 10, 2019, 11:09 AM EDT

I planted several varieties of tomatoes this summer (Celebrity, Robeson, Tasteful, Black Krim), and while they bore fruit, they never turned to red from green, only a pale pink. Can you tell me what caused this? Thanks - Thomas Harryman

Hi - It is usual that these varieties would just remain pale pink. When did you harvest them? If tomatoes begin to show color and then you pick them and bring them inside, they should ripen fully for you. The following links from Purdue University and Cornell Cooperative Extension provide information about factors that influence tomato ripening. Temperature has a lot to do with it.
