When to Prune Trees

Asked October 9, 2019, 8:45 AM EDT

When is the best time to prune trees on the north coast? Seaside/Astoria area. We have shore pines, Chinese maples and Japanese cedars that need trimming to remove dead branches and raise canopy.

Clatsop County Oregon

Dead branches should be removed now. For other pruning, wait until dormant season, usually November through March. Here is some helpful information from OSU Extension. https://extension.oregonstate.edu/crop-production/fruit-trees/tree-pruning-basics#targetText=The%20best%20time%20to%20prune,removed%20as%20soon%20as%20possible.
