My church has a Maple tree and its leaves have black spots on them. Someone said it is called Tar spot and only found on maple trees. I tried looking that up on the Ohio line site but nothing came up. They are concerned about the tree and want to know if it would spread to other trees. I am unable to upload a picture.

Tar spot is a fungal condition that affects maples and other susceptible trees and shrubs. It is most often a cosmetic problem rather than a serious disease and treatment is generally not warranted.
