I have 120 acres and I am wanting to try and develop a commercial orchard. I would start with 10 acres of Hazelnut trees. If this works out my neighbor is selling 172 acres that is probably the same composition of soil as mine. My concerns are that my land may not have good enough drainage.

Hi, A prudent course of action is to determine your soil type. You can use the Web Soil Survey (https://websoilsurvey.sc.egov.usda.gov/App/WebSoilSurvey.aspx) and your address to determine this. Then cross check your soil type against this publication: https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/em9076. The productivity ratings can give a good idea of how successful an orchard can be on your soil and whether there may be any benefit to adding drainage tile before planting.
