Hi, We noticed that our oleander was not doing well during the winter. We moved it outside for the summer and noticed some spots on the leaves of 2 different varieties and colors. Please advise on what we can do to clean it up before it comes inside for the winter. Thanks, Joe
Hi - It looks like your oleander has two types of scale insects. These insects suck out the plant sap, which can lead to a gradual decline in plant health. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/scale-insects-houseplants
Before you bring the plant inside for the winter, try brushing off the brown scales very gently using a soft toothbrush. Then treat the plant with an application of horticultural soil, which you can find in a garden center or hardware store. Apply a "summer rate" or horticultural oil, according to the product label instructions.
