Himalayan sweetbox planting time

Asked October 3, 2019, 2:06 PM EDT

Hi, I live in Rockville, MD and I plan to plant some himalayan sweetbox in my yard. Can you please tell if I can still plant it this fall or how late I can plant this year. Thank you.

Fall is a great time for planting. The cooler (hopefully wetter) weather encourages root growth before the ground freezes for the winter. Now is fine.

It is going to want a moist but well-drained acidic soil in part shade to shade. Keep it watered for the first 18 months if we don't get at least an inch of rain a week during the growing season (through the time that the ground freezes so it is better able to protect itself from winterburn. Give it a 2-3 inch layer of mulch, but pull it back from beingin contact with the stems and trunk.
