Leek storage

Asked October 1, 2019, 5:57 PM EDT

I want to keep my leeks in the ground until I want to use them. I have piled soil around them. Some leaves are falling down. Should those be trimmed?

Thank you for your question. Leeks are interesting members of the allium family, since they are biennial—they take two growing seasons to produce flowers and seeds. Do you know how long yours have been in the ground? Here is the best advice I’ve found: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/leeks Good luck!
