Found in a large shipping box

What kind of snake is this? I am not sure where the shipment came from and where it may have been along its way to Wisconsin.

Dane County Wisconsin

Thank you for your question. It's difficult to tell the size of your snake from your photograph. If it's a small snake (8-12"), it's a brown snake, scientific name is Storeria delay. It is a nonvenomous species.

They live under leaf litter, pine straw and mulch. They feed on earthworms, slugs and snails.

I hope this answers your question, and thank you for contacting Ask an Expert.
