Home grown apple disease

Asked September 25, 2019, 12:02 AM EDT

Hello, I bought a home with an apple tree which produced a few diseased fruit this year. (Photos attached) How do I identify the disease early & what do I do to treat it?

The first image shows apple scab which is a very common problem here in western Oregon. You can read about it here:

The cut apple is little less specific. Apple scab is a surface problem and does not go that deep into the tissue. I think you have another problem there and it could be apple maggot or a few other things. Look for worms and/or tunnels of these insects to be sure.

Thanks Jay!
Sure enough, maggots too.
What do I do for them?
