I have honey bees is this something I should be worried about? What are they?
This is an European hornet. It is not native, and can be a pest, but usually it just goes about its business of being a predator of insects. However, it has been known to raid honey bee hives--this is rare.
Because all except the queen die over the winter--and the queen moves--and also because it is usually very hard to even find the hive, they isn't a lot to do about them now.
