Miss Kim lilac

Asked September 21, 2019, 5:16 PM EDT

My husband unknowingly trimmed the Miss Kim Lilac. We live in Saint Michael, Mn. Has he killed it and if not, how might I prevent it. I know no blooms will occur next season.
Thank you

It should be fine, but It may not bloom for a couple of years. To keep it healthy, make sure it has plenty of water until the ground freezes. Unlike common lilacs, Miss Kims don't need or like a lot of pruning, but you can always cut out old, large branches or lightly trim the shrub back after blooming.
